Chelsea Drop Goalkeeper Ernest Sowah For Al Ahly Clash
Berekum Chelsea have left out experienced goalkeeper Ernest Sowah for their Caf Champions League reverse fixture against Al Alhy due to fatigue.
The country’s second choice goalkeeper has been the club’s most reliable shot-stopper for the past two seasons but has been made to pay their price for some poor goalkeeping errors in their last game against the six-time winners in Cairo.
Chelsea’s defence has been hugely criticized in the continental competition which has seen them concede as many as eight goals in three matches.
But critics have not laid the blame squarely on the the central defensive pair of Ahmed Adams and Edward Kpodo but there are others who have been critical of Sowah for conceding some ‘school boy’ errors.
But officials of the 2010 Ghanaian champions insist the 24-year-old was left out purely because of tiredness.
“He is our number one goalkeeper but we believe he is tired and so it will be important for us to rest him,” PRO Isaac Amponsah told Kumsi-based Fox FM
“He has consistently kept the post for the team and so we believe it is time for him to give way for someone to also keep the post as he takes a break,”
“It has got nothing to do with what people are saying. He is simply tired and needs rest.”
Iddrisu Abubakar Danjuma and Collins Addo will jostle for the position for the game at the Accra Sports stadium on Sunday.
