Amissah Arthur was chosen to complement Mahama's weakness- Dr. Kwesi Jonah
According to the astute political analyst, who appeared on Multi TV's pm:Express Tuesday, settling on the BoG Governor ahead of the other names that cropped up was to strengthen the president’s financial team especially as Mr Mahama is deficient in economics and finance.
He said elsewhere, non-economists have done marvelous at the helm of affairs. But sticking to his guns, Dr. Jonah said although it is true that some countries have fared well with non-economists at the top, experience in classical economics cannot be underestimated.
Advancing other reasons why he thought the choice of Mr. Amissah-Arthur might be politically prudent, Dr. Jonah said “he is a cool level headed guy and can play the role without competition with the president. The choice also shows that politically he wants to connect with the late President especially as he was close to Mills”.
However, the Editor of the Insight newspaper,Kwesi Pratt who also appeared on pm:Express said the nomination of Amissah-Arthur was not to rival the NPP’s choice of Dr. Bawumia. According to him, Amissah-Arthur is far more experienced than his NPP compatriot.
