NDC Confirms President John Mahama As Flagbearer
The National Executive Council (NEC) of the ruling National Democratic Congress have confirmed President John Dramani Mahama as the flag-bearer of the party for the 2012 General elections.
He would be battling it out with Nana Akufo Addo of the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Hassan Ayariga of the Peoples National Convention(PNC), Dr. Abu Sakara of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum of the Progressive Peoples Party(PPP).
The two paragraphed resolution read:
“The National Executive Committee at its emergency meeting on the 26th day of July 2012, held at the Institute of Local Government Studies, Accra, in respect of the creation of a vacancy of a flag-bearer of the NDC hereby resolve as follows:
That a special delegates congress to endorse the leader of the NDC, H.E. John Dramani Mahama as a flag-bearer of the NDC to contest the 2012 Presidential elections in accordance with the due process of the party’s constitution be conveyed not in less than 1st September, 2012.”
The party has however set September 1 as the date the party would go for its special delegates congress to outdoor him to the entire NDC body.
This was after an emergency meeting following the demise of the party’s leader Professor John Mills on Tuesday July 24.
There were several NDC big wigs present at the meeting including Ministers of State including Foreign Affairs Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, Collins Dauda, Minister of Agric, Kwesi Awhoi, Attorney General Ben Kumbour amongst others.
NDC executives who were present included Richard Quarshigah, the National Chairman, Kwabena Agyei, General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu -Nketia, Deputy General Secretary in charge of operations and many others.
