Minority Leader: We questioned Betty Mould’s actions not her person
“I am only criticizing the commissions and omissions of Betty. I am close to her but what is important as a nation is to question her commissions and omission which have resulted in the colossal payment of such an amount,” the Minority Leader said in an interview with Joy News.
The Minority Leader and the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Kwodwo Owusu Afriyie have been accused of stampeding the police to arrest Mrs Iddrisu and create public disaffection for her in the controversial judgement debt paid to businessman Alfred Woyome.
A statement released by lawyers of the former Attorney General insists: “Our client finds it rather strange that such high personalities amongst others would want to direct, instruct and stampede the Police in its investigation,” especially when “she neither authorized payments nor was she at post as Attorney General when subsequent payments were made to Mr Woyome.”
“The only payment made by the State to Mr Woyome during her tenure as Attorney General was made pursuant to a High Court Order dated 7th September 2010,” the statement added.
In a reaction, the Minority Leader told Joy News’ Araba Koomson his call for the arrest of Betty Mould Iddrisu was taken out of context.
He explained President John Mills in an answer to a question stated that he will not be criminally minded and irresponsible to pay that much money to one person.
By inference, the Minority Leader said so it is reasonable to conclude that Betty Mould Iddrisu, who according to the EOCO report ordered the payment, was criminally minded and irresponsible and therefore must be arrested by the police.
Whilst agreeing in part to portions of the statement by the lawyers of Betty Mould which suggested that a large chunk of the money was paid to Woyome at a time Betty Mould was not the Attorney General, he said categorically it is also true that she [Betty Mould Iddrisu] went to court to lift the stay of execution which she had earlier filed in court in respect of the payment of the judgement debt, an action he noted, led to the eventual payment of the entire amount.
He found it rather curious that Betty Mould has not been invited by the police, merely because she said she was ready to cooperate with the police and yet OB Amoah who had also hinted of his readiness to cooperate with the police was arrested and detained over the same matter.
