Two-year-old boy burnt to death
The deceased has been identified as Yaw Ofosu Anim, a two-year-old boy.
Briefing the Daily Graphic at Oda, Monday, the landlord of the house, Mr Kwasi Anim, a revenue collector of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly, said while relaxing in front of his house around 8.30 p.m. during a power outage at Oda, he heard his wife, Madam Selina Amo screaming for help in the house.
He said when he rushed to the house, he realized that his bedroom in which his two children were sleeping and six other rooms were in flames.
According to Mr Anim, he managed to rescue her 11-year-old daughter, Ama Saah Amo, from the raging fire but could not rescue Yaw because of the intensity of the fire.
Mr Anim stated that when personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at Oda and Akyem Achiase were contacted, they responded and rushed to the scene to fight the fire, but it was too late for on their arrival at the house, everything had been burnt.
When contacted, Divisional Officer Class 3, Daniel Allotey of the Oda Fire Station said he could not fathom the immediate cause of the fire but suspected that one of the victims might have lit a candle in his bedroom which might have got in touch with some combustible items.
He said his outfit was investigating the cause of the fire and would come out with a report in no time.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NAOMO), Mr Winfred Acheampong, who visited the scene with some staff members, has donated a quantity of relief items to the fire victims.
The items included nine blankets, seven mattresses, three plastic buckets, nine cups, 18 plates and a quantity of used clothing.
