EPA begins confiscating “second-hand” fridges

The exercise is in line with a policy to totally ban such imports by December 31st.
Head of Energy Efficiency and Climate Change at the Energy Commission, Kofi Agyarko says Ghana is signatory to the Montreal protocol which is against the use of CFC laden refrigerators.
He told Joy News the Commission was working closely with importers and mechanics in the implementation of the policy.
According to him, importers clearing used refrigerators at the ports would have to produce a permit from the EPA to ensure they have not exceeded the quota allocated to them.
He said two 40-footer containers full of CFC laden refrigerators have been confiscated. He said the exercise is being closely monitored to ensure strict compliance.
