Integrity is critical to development- Prof. Ken Attafuah

Prof. Ken Attafuah believes wealth obtained through corrupt means is tenuous |
He said that a firmly entrenched anti-corruption culture would ensure a better return on development efforts.
Furthermore, he said, Ghana would develop much more quickly if Ghanaians respected those who do the right thing, voted for politicians according to merit, and were more honest in their dealings with one another.
When individuals pursue wealth or power improperly, he warned, they are bound to face ruin eventually, and these corrupt, powerful players rarely enjoy the reverence of ordinary people.
Appearing on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Monday, Prof. Attafuah acknowledged that Ghana has a long way to go before it broadly embraces integrity as a core value and that today, those who reject it often enjoy riches while those who abide by it suffer.
He hopes that by turning out graduates whose integrity sets them apart from their peers wherever they work in Ghana, the Institute can help change the corruption culture.
But the Institute’s efforts to change the national attitude go even further: tonight, it will be sponsoring a lecture by Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood at the British Council Hall which comes off at 5 pm. The general public is invited.
Part of an ongoing series of quarterly lectures meant to highlight the centrality of integrity to development, Chief Justice Wood’s lecture will deal with the relationships between integrity, elections, and democratic governance in Ghana.
Prof. Attafuah anticipates that the CJ’s words will not only address the importance of living by high ethical standards but will also offer attendees guidance as they go to the polls this December.
