MPs demand briefing from Interior Minister over Ghana-Cote d’Ivoire brouhaha
It has subsequently invited sector Minister, William Kwasi Aboah to appear before it next Tuesday.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defense, Interior and national Security, Alhaji Abukari Sumani told Joy News the prolonged closure of the border raises concern.
He said since last Friday’s attack which provoked Ivoirian authorities to take that decision, Parliament has not been officially briefed on how the situation was being managed.
Alhaji Sumani believed the Minister’s response will inform their advice to government.
Meanwhile the border remained closed in spite of Ghana’s assurances which were re-echoed by President John Mahama when he addressed the 67th UN General Assembly.
Reports say hundreds of passengers are stranded at the Elubo border and though security patrols have been beefed up, some are daring by using canoes to cross along river Tano.
Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ransford Ninson is worried and warns any one arrested will be swiftly prosecuted.
