God has been good to Ghana; let’s be grateful – Prez Mahama
He was not enthused about reports of the various Ghanaian media platforms – online, radio and newspaper –on Ghana, which he said makes it sound like “Ghana is the worst country not only in Africa but in the world”.
President John Mahama was interacting with Ghanaians resident in the United States. He is in the US to participate in the 27th UN General Assembly where he took time off to address scores of Ghanaians on what government is doing to improve all sectors of the economy.
“...I must say that this is a country that is making significant progress,” he said, adding that outsiders have seen and appreciated Ghana’s progress than citizens have done.
He, therefore, advised: “[If God] blesses you and you don’t appreciate, and you think that He has treated you badly, then you don’t get more blessings. And that is the story of Ghana. God has been good to us, He has been favourable to us and He has put us ahead of our peers on the continent.”
He said Ghana, is today, amongst the top six fastest performing economies in Africa.
President John Mahama assured Ghanaians in the diaspora that he will accept the result of the December elections.
The President said he was committed to peace and will not do anything to disturb the peace in the country.
“All of us mean well for our country, I think that it’s God and the people who will decide who should rule them; and we must respect and listen to the verdict of the people…and I am prepared to listen to the verdict of the people.”
He stated: “I am not one of the leaders who would want to hang on to power at all cost. I mean, if the people don’t want you, they don’t want you...and may the best party win.”
