Gov't finalizes Mills’ funeral arrangements with family

This followed agitations by some family members who accused government of ignoring them in planning the late president’s funeral.

Joy FM’s Central Regional correspondent, Richard Kojo Nyarko reported that the meeting was a very fruitful one and that both parties have agreed to ensure the former president is interred peacefully.

He said the family has agreed that ex president Mills be interred in Accra and have also accepted to abide by the programme outlined by the State to give the late president a befitting burial.

The Regional Minister Ama Benyiwa Doe, who was at the meeting, noted: “Everything I think indeed has been settled. We (government) were happy [with the outcome of the meeting] and they (the family) were happy for the committee members’ coming all the way to Ekumfi. That even meant that they have been recognised.”

The late President is to be interred next Friday at the castle drive - an area around the government’s official seat at Osu.

The funeral Planning Committee has, meanwhile, promised to ensure the late president’s hometown is given a facelift for it to be well recognised.
