PNC leader rubbishes resignation demands; prepares for presidential encounter
Joy News has learnt that he will make a major policy statement at the IEA presidential encounter.
But as he prepares for his big night, he has been forced to battle disgruntled elements within his party who are aggrieved at his leadership.
The party’s executive committee was forced into a meeting yesterday in an attempt to close ranks ahead of today’s event.
The meeting discussed a petition by the national youth organiser Abu Ramadan who had demanded the flagbearer be called to order.
Now a caucus group led by the party’s policy adviser, Atik Mohammed is demanding an apology or resignation of Mr. Ayariga for acts they said were counter productive to the party's interest.
Mr. Ayariga is fighting back. A while ago he briefly took time off his preparations to take on the critics within his party.
He told Joy News’ Evans Mensah the concerns by the caucus group within the party are misplaced.
He said the party cannot satisfy the parochial interests of individual members within the party.
He accused the leader of the group of making unnecessary financial demands on the party.
Hassan Ayariga was convinced the internal wrangling will not take a toll on his performance this evening.
He said the leaders and national executives of the party will be present at the occasion to offer their support.
But Atik Mohammed has debunked the claims by the party’s flagebearer.
He told Joy News he has been working for the party for years and has never made any financial demands on anybody; not on Edward Mahama and certainly not Hassan Ayariga.
Asked if he will support the party flagbearer in this evenings encounter with IEA, Atik Mohammed said he will not be present at the venue of the encounter.
