Sekou Nkrumah fights GTV, GNA over ‘fake’ brother
Sekou Nkrumah, son of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is up in arms against the state broadcaster, Ghana Television and the Ghana News Agency (GNA) for granting audience to one Dr. Onsy Nathan Nkrumah, who claims to be the son of the late president.
Speaking on an Accra based radio station in Accra on Saturday, Sekou vehemently chastised both media houses for labeling Dr. Onsy in their news bulletins as the eldest son of Dr. Nkrumah, when the individual, in reality, was not recognized as such.
He insists the news items were mischievous, fictitious and barbaric, and therefore demanded an unqualified apology from the two state media agencies.
“The news completely distorted the fact and denigrated the family of our great father (Dr. Kwame Nkrumah) because when you go to the Nkrumah Mausoleum it is clear who the children of Nkrumah are,” Sekou angrily asserted.
Both media houses last Thursday described Dr. Onsy in their news bulletins as the son of Dr. Nkrumah, after signing the book of condolence in memory of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.
“Late President John Evans Atta Mills has left unique legacies of peace and humility in leadership that has made him famous globally, Dr. Onsy Nathan Nkrumah, son of Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, on Thursday observed,” the GNA report is quoted as saying.
According to Sekou, who was once the head of the National Youth Council, GTV also took the same path and named the latter as the son of their father in their major news item.
He further advised both local and international media houses to restrain portraying Dr. Onsy as one of the son’s of their father, Dr. Nkrumah.
