Another MP Dies At The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital
The MP for Kwabre West, Hon. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, has passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a short ailment.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislator was taken to the Achimota Hospital on Thursday morning, but was later transferred to the nation’s premier hospital where he died.
His relative Nana Akosua Brago, who is based in Kumasi, confirmed the news on Accra-based Oman FM on Friday morning.
Hon. Owusu-Ansah, a former Ashanti Regional Minister, has been MP for the area on two terms - 2005 to 2008 and 2009 until he gave up the ghost on Friday dawn.
The Kwabre West constituency which was created in 2004 by the Electoral Commission had witnessed a prolonged leadership power struggle among the fold of the NPP since its inception.
This is the second time in three weeks that an MP of Ghana’s Parliament is dying ahead of the December presidential and parliamentary elections. The MP for Wulensi, Alhaji Saani Idi, passed away early this month after battling with an illness and was buried last week.
A by-election is due on July 31 in Wulensi and with the latest death hitting the House, it appears another one is to be held in less than six months to the general elections.
