Teiku Tackie, Taxi driver gets 18 months for fondling passenger’s breasts
An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a Taxi driver, Teiku Tackie, to eighteen months in prison for fondling a passenger’s breasts in an effort to rape her.
He was also jailed for stealing two mobile phones and Ghc50 from the victim.
According to the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sarah Acquah, the victim, Maame Esi Asamoah is a student who resides at Laterbiokohie where the driver also lives. She said on June 11, the victim who had closed from church boarded the taxi together with other passengers to Chorkor. Upon reaching a traffic light around the offices of Radio Gold, the victim signaled to the driver she wanted to alight but other passengers warned it was unsafe at that point. Teiku Tackie then told the victim he will take her home after dropping off the other passengers, which she agreed. But he took the victim through a rough road and when he was questioned, he said he was buying cigarettes.
ASP Acquah said Tackie after buying the cigarette drove his victim off a dark place where he fondled her and attempted to rape her. She however managed to deceive the driver that they will be comfortable having sex at the backseat of his taxi instead, which he obliged. But she took to her heels once she got out of the car. The driver reportedly chased her but was unsuccessful.
The victim subsequently reported the case to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit at the Mamprobi Police and Tackie was subsequently arrested and arraigned.
The 37 year old driver was found guilty and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.
