Cape Coast High Court Jails Businessman For Claiming To Be Odikro
A Cape Coast High Court has sentenced Nana Tweiku Ababio III, a businessman, who paraded himself as the Odikro of Tweikrom in the Ajumaku Traditional Area, to seven days prison.
The court also fined him GH?550.
This followed a contempt case filed against him by Nana Afrasi Brempong III, recognized as the Odikro of Tweikrom by the Ajumako Traditional Council, and the Central Regional House of Chiefs.
The Ajumako Traditional Council and the Central Regional House of Chiefs had earlier ordered Nana Tweiku Ababio not to parade himself as the Odikro of Tweikrom.
Passing judgment, Mr. Justice James Benson, said Nana Tweiku Ababio should have known better since in pursuance of the relevant traditions and custom, Nana Afrasi Brempong VII is the recognised and accredited Odikro of Tweikrom.
He said Nana Tweiku Ababio had pleaded with the court for time to tender documents to prove his credibility as the Odikro of the town but failed to do so.
Mr. C.K. Imbeah, counsel for the convict, pleaded with the court to tamper justice with mercy on his client and on the basis of his plea the initial sentence of two weeks was reduced to one week.
