A 24 YEAR old polling agent of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Robert Sam was arrested Tuesday by the Abura Dunkwa District Police for defrauding one Joseph Amuzu, a mechanic at Dunkwa-On-Offin.

Sam, a computer hardware engineering student at IBB Centre for Computer Studies in Cape Coast has been using a ‘magic voice device’ to change his voice from a man to a woman’s in order to rob innocent people.

Briefing journalists at Abura Dunkwa on Wednesday, the town’s   Police Commander, DSP Bernard Twum Barima said the suspect was arrested after John Frimpong, the victim’s father reported at the police station that his son has been duped of GH¢820 by Sam.

He said Amuzu had a call from Sam who pretended to be calling from abroad that he was interested in buying a car Amuzu wanted to sell  for GH¢4000.

He said Sam then told Amuzu that his mother was the one who wanted to buy the car for him and that he should expect a call from her soon.

Minutes later one Mary Mensah called pretending to be Sam’s mother called from Britain saying she wanted to buy the car for her son but wanted to deal with him directly as she does not trust her son.

She later asked Amuzu to deposit GH¢820 into her Akosombo account at Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) for Sam to use for an emergency transaction and that she would send some items such as laptop and jeans which he can use to defray the amount she had collected from him.

DSP Twum Barima noted that Amuzu along with his father went   to the Dunkwa-On-Offin GCB branch and deposit the GH¢820 .

Mary called Amuzu some few minutes later, requesting that he and his father deposit an additional GH¢1,500 to enable her send them the items since the port authorities in Britain were complaining the items had delayed but Amuzu’s father who became suspicious refused to do so, demanding that she transfer the money they had already deposited into her account back to him.

The police officer said some hours later Amuzu’s father decided to call Mary and Sam to ascertain how far they had gone with the transaction but Sam’s phone was off while Mary’s phone went unanswered.

Later when the duo went to the bank to withdraw the money they were told that one Sam had cashed the money with an ID card bearing the name Robert Sam at Assin Fosu.

Armed with photocopies of the ID card and with the help of the Assin South Electoral Commission they were able to trace the whereabouts of Sam.

DSP Twum Barima said Sam was subsequently arrested while in school and brought to the Abura Dunkwa police station where he was detained and upon interrogation admitted the offence.
