The British mother on trial in Spain for murdering her two children appeared furious yesterday as DNA tests presented to the court revealed the identity of their father is a mystery.
Lianne Smith claimed the tests must be 'mistaken' after they showed that her partner, TV hypnotist Martin Smith, was not the father of either child.
Rebecca, five, and baby Daniel, 11 months, were suffocated by their mother in a hotel on the Costa Brava in May 2010.

Lianne Smith is led into court in Girona, Spain, this morning on the third day of her murder trial, where the court heard DNA tests prove her partner did not father her victims
Paedophile Mr Smith hanged himself in his prison cell in Manchester earlier this year, believing his partner had killed his son and his daughter.
But they were not his, the jury at Girona Provincial Court, in North East Spain was told.
A police witness revealed: 'DNA tests on the children showed that Martin Smith was not their biological father.'
Their mother, 45, insisted the tests must be wrong.
The court was not told whether Rebecca and Daniel shared the same father. However, they were born in different countries.
Martin Smith, who was found dead in his cell in January
She gave birth to Daniel while on the run in Spain with fugitive Martin Smith, who had fled child sex charges in Britain.
Her daughter Rebecca had been born in the UK while she was living with Mr Smith.
Earlier Girona Provincial Court, in northeast Spain, heard evidence from Smith's estranged mother, who claimed her daughter had been happy before she fell under the spell of her 'controlling' partner.
Doreen Smith, a witness for the defence, failed to turn up in person and no reason was given for her absence, forcing her daughter's lawyer to read out a statement given to British police last year.
Mrs Smith, from North Tyneside, said: ‘All I can say is that my daughter isn’t the person I once knew.
‘We were a normal family, happy. Angela went to school and to university. All her relations with her family changed completely from the moment she started her relationship with Martin Smith.
‘Martin Smith was very controlling. From the time she met Martin, she was a completely different person.’
In January Martin Smith, 46, was found dead in his cell in Manchester, where he was serving a 16-year sentence for sexually abusing his step-daughter.
He had initially been arrested and questioned by police in 2007, after which he and Lianne Smith fled to Spain to start a new life with Rebecca, then aged three.
Daniel was born in Barcelona, where the couple had set up a business among the thriving expat community.
In May 2010 Martin Smith was tracked down and deported to face trial in the UK.
Defence lawyer Jenifer Lahoz Abos said Smith had had 'an absolute emotional dependence' on her partner, with whom she shared a surname although they never married.
Martin Smith was previously thought to be the father of Daniel and Rebecca, whom his partner has admitted killing in a Spanish hotel room

Martin Smith was convicted of repeatedly raping Lianne Smith’s daughter from a previous relationship, Sarah Richardson, when she was a child.
Sarah, now 24, waived her anonymity after Smith was jailed.
Miss Lahoz Abos added: 'The defendant came to Spain fleeing the British judicial authorities and social services because her husband Martin was accused of sexually abusing another daughter she had from an earlier marriage, which they considered a totally false accusation.
'In Barcelona, Lianne not only took care of her children but was also the only member of the family who worked. She worked as an English teacher and was the family's only breadwinner.'
Ms Lahoz Abos said that after Martin's arrest, Smith felt 'persecuted, hounded and threatened'.
The couple first met in October 1992 through a dating agency.
Smith was going through a divorce from her first husband at the time and was then living in Wallsend, Tyne and Wear.
Martin Smith, originally from North Shields, had been a singer in a band in clubs in the North East before working as a TV psychic.
The pair lived together in Cumbria and in 2007 they moved to Lichfield, Staffordshire, but only stayed there for a few months before fleeing to Spain with Rebecca.
Earlier this week the court heard that Smith was ‘completely normal’ and ‘peaceful’ as she showed astonished police her dead children at Hotel Miramar, in Lloret de Mar.
Hours after killing Rebecca and Daniel, she asked the hotel reception to call police, and then quietly gave officers a guided tour of the murder scene.

Officers who attended all agreed that Smith, who is seeking an acquittal claiming she was in a state of 'psychiatric disturbance', seemed calm when she confessed to the killings the day after carrying them out.
The Spanish courtroom had earlier fallen silent as they heard Smith describe how she killed her two children after treating them to a ‘perfect’ beach holiday.
In a video interview with police, Smith demonstrated how she used a plastic shopping bag to suffocate Rebecca and Daniel in their hotel beds.
As Daniel struggled for breath, she drew the bag closed around his neck and ‘did not stop squeezing’ until he was dead, the court heard.
Then she did the same to her daughter before giving her children a cuddle and spending the night beside their bodies.
She said she tried to kill herself before telling the hotel receptionist to summon the police.
The interview, which officers recorded in May 2010 in the room next to the one where the killings took place hours earlier, was this week made public for the first time.
Smith, from Lichfield, Staffordshire, showed no emotion as the jury watched it.
Defence lawyer Ms Lahoz Abos said her client admitted the killing but called for her to be acquitted on mental health grounds.
Prosecutor Victor Pillado Quintas is pushing for Smith to be jailed for 38 years.
