NDC Government Gives Free Laptops To Non-Existent Sunyani College Of Education
Claims by the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration that it has distributed about 100,000 free laptops to students and educational institutions across the country have turned out to be untrue.
The NDC government yesterday advertised a tall list of beneficiaries of the free laptops in the dailies and it cited Sunyani College of Education as one of the beneficiary institutions, where a total of 100 ‘ghost’ students were said to have benefited from the offer.
The irony of it is that the so-called Sunyani College of Education, which popped up on the list, does not exist, and residents of the region are wondering when and where the NDC government managed to establish the said college of education in the municipality.
The development has angered the people in Sunyani Municipality, with some of them demanding an unqualified apology from the government for throwing dust into their eyes and fooling the entire nation.
Some residents who spoke with DAILY GUIDE on the issue chastised the NDC government for choosing to tell blatant lies about things it had not done in the region just to score cheap political points.
The NDC government claims that as part of its commitment to build a better Ghana through science and technology and innovation, it has been distributing free laptops to students and schools. The government published a list of beneficiary students from some selected institutions in the country, with some ghost schools and names popping up on the list.
Some students at the University of Cape Coast have been asked to write their names to benefit from the freebies in a desperate attempt by the NDC to win student votes.
Some schools have also distanced themselves from the free laptop programme, saying the published names are not from their schools.
The distribution of the free laptops, which are mostly given to NDC footsoldiers, is said to be under the auspices of the Ministries of Environment, Science and Technology; Education; and Communication and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
