Ghanaian Woman For President
Another political party, Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has been given a certificate by the Electoral Commission (EC) to contest both the presidential and parliamentary elections come December 7, 2012.
The flagbearer and founder of the new party, Akua Donkor, was accompanied by her supporters who were clad in the party’s blue, white and yellow colours to the office of the EC on Friday for their certificate.
The 58-year-old flagbearer is a farmer from the Kwabre West constituency of the Ashanti Region where the party headquarters is situated.
The certificate was handed to her by a deputy chairman of the EC, Kwadwo Sarfo Kantanka who warned the party that the commission had the power to withdraw the certificate if the party violated the law.
In an interview with DAILY GUIDE, Akua Donkor said, “Ghanaians today cannot even sponsor their wards’ education, and there is less job creation, high cost of electricity and shelter, and high import duties”, adding that these were the result of economic mismanagement by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She stated that “the Ghanaian community has been endowed with mineral resources and oil and still, Ghana cannot maintain a stable economy and therefore solicits funds from donors outside.”
The flagbearer added that “corruption can be seen in the length and breadth of this country especially in the political offices where huge sums of money are being paid to Woyome which can be channeled for development projects in the less privileged communities”.
“When I’m voted by Ghanaians into power, I will declare free port, free education for all Ghanaians no matter the party they support or tribe they belong to,” she said.
She indicated that the policies and vision she had for the development of the country were realistic and achievable as far as she was concerned, adding that it took people with wisdom and courage to be able to “take the country to Zion”.
Madam Donkor stated that “Ghana has all it takes to ensure that we have a stable economy, free education, create jobs, (enjoy) free port (services) and ensure good standard of living for Ghanaians. Therefore Ghanaians should not doubt my ability to achieve the purposes of my party.”
She noted that she had strong and vibrant representatives in all the 275 constituencies where some would contest for parliamentary seats.
In an interview with her special assistant Abdul Basit, he said the official launch of the party’s campaign would take place on September 19, 2012, adding that the party would soon elect its national and regional executives.
“We have visited and are still visiting the various constituencies to ensure that the appropriate measures are put in place to win power. We are very sure at all cost that we will win this election based on the massive support we have received from the people,” he added.
Basit indicated that even though it was four months to the December 7 elections, the new party would continue to work hard to win political power.
He therefore asked Ghanaians and the entire nation to vote for the Ghana Freedom Party to win both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
