President Mills Begins Final Journey To Eternal Home - Video
The hundreds of mourners who have gathered at the forecourt of Banquet Hall of the State House have now allowed to file past the body of President John Mills.
There were initial agitations from the crowd who were unhappy about the fact that they got to the grounds much earlier than some of the dignitaries who were being given the chance to go in before them.
Several persons from all walks of life have gone through the hall to pay homage to the illustrious son of Ghana who passed on July 24.
Leadership of the Convention People's Party (CPP) have also filed past the body.
Members of Parliament have also lined up to file past the body and the is serious human traffic at the forecourt of the State House.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings and wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and his delegation have also just filed past the body of Professor Mills whom he (Rawlings) introduced into active politics.
He moved on to greet the family of Professor Mills and has thus exited the Banquet Hall.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Fred Oware, Alan Kyerematen and other senior NPP officials have also filed past the body.
Widow and family of the late President have exited the Banquet Hall.
A number of Minister of State and their deputies seen filing past the body.
A sea of mourners have gathered in front of the Banquet Hall of the State House waiting their turn to file past the late President.
A lot more personalities still filing past the body including Mr. Kojo Tsikata, Lt.
General Arnold Quainoo, Attorney General Benjamin Kumbour and several notable individuals paying homage to President Mills.
Other dignitaries including Speaker of Parliament Joyce Bamford Addo, Mrs.
President Mills’ body will be laid in state at the Banquet Hall where President John Dramani Mahama and his wife will become the first personalities to file past it before his vice, Mr. Kwesi Amissah-Arthur and spouse does so.
Hundreds of people have lined up the principal streets of Accra with a heavy vehicular traffic mounting at vantage points forcing people to disembark from commercial vehicles to continue their journey to work on foot.
A large number of Ghanaians and foreigners will have the opportunity to pay their last respects to the late President from Wednesday as the country commences an elaborate three-day state funeral.
The President died on Tuesday July 24, 2012 after being taken ill.
About 16 Heads of State from Africa and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are scheduled to attend the funeral ceremony on Friday, August 10.
