Ghana Football Association's Vice President Jordan Anagblah Is Dead
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) suffered a major blow on Thursday when vice president and football administration stalwart Jordan Anagblah died after battling illness.
This comes just nine months after the country lost another administrator – Alhaji Sly Tetteh – who is also known for discovering talent for Ghana.
Anagblah, who was the leader of Ghana’s U20 side that won Africa’s first and only U20 World Cup title in 2009, passed away at the SSNIT hospital in Accra on Thursday.
The CEO of Tudu Mighty Jets started battling illness at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in January after complaining of stomach pains.
But the illness worsened on their return from the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and was unable to attend several meetings at the GFA.
Anagblah, who is also the chairman of the Greater Accra Regional FA, was last seen in public during the negotiation over the severing of the contract of ex-Black Stars coach Goran Stevanovic.
The vice-president of the Ghana FA is a football-man through and through – having started football administration in the 1980s by setting up various youth football clubs in Accra.
He has nurtured several players including many in the current Black Stars squad – not least Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew, Isaac Vorsah, Lee Addy and many many others from his days at the Madina Colts Football League.
He also formed help for foster unity among clubs in Greater Accra which led him to being elected as their leader for many years because of his zeal to fight their corner.
He wielded enormous power in Ghana football he rarely used until he was forced into taking the position as the vice-president of the GFA after trouncing incumbent Fred Pappoe in elections last year.
Anaglah is also known for speaking his mind on issues affecting Ghana football.
His ability to organise people and bring peace in the football fraternity will be sorely missed.
