Nollywood Actor Benson Okonkwo expresses his desire of transitioning to Hollywood
I’m Benson Okonkwo, an actor and a model. I’m a graduate of Business Management, from a Christian family of 6, four boys, no girl. My hobbies are dancing, swimming and acting. I love fashion a whole lot and have featured in about 30 movies and still counting. I have been acting since 2008 till date, although I have not been consistent. The names of my movies are “War in the palace”, “A better tomorrow,” “Strippers in love,” “Total love,” “Indian doctor,” “No man’s land,” “Evil mission,” “World of prince,” and more.
I have modeled for top brands and intend to open a modeling agency and clothing line called Mr packaging in other to help upcoming models to achieve their dreams. I’ll love to act In Hollywood in years to come.
My favorite colors are red and blue. My favorite food is rice with chicken. My form of exercise is jogging and swimming… that’s how I maintain my physic. I’m not single, I’m in a relationship.
What more can you say about modeling?
I love modeling. In fact, I started it when I was just 16. Modeling is good, less stressful and it pays better. You know when you’re still upcoming as an actor it takes some time to break in. Although they don’t pay up comers well but with time the lord is our power. But as for modeling, once it is one Billboard job, you’ll start laughing to the bank. Modeling and acting is what I have passion for. Another thing that gives me joy is when I meet a fan and they tell me that they love my movies.
What are you working on at the moment?
I have done 11 movies since January this year. And I’m still doing more. Our lord has been faithful. I currently finished a movie with Uche Nancy. It’s a royal movie and will soon hit the market. I also will be working with Solo Amaco soon on a campus movie. That’s all for now.
What do you think about the Nollywood of today?
Well for our Nollywood of today, our scriptwriters are doing well. Our directors of photos (DOPs) are doing well. Better equipment is being used. Even locations look great. The costumers too are doing a great job. I know that with time we’ll be greater than Hollywood. I love my job.
