Promzy’s Wild Love For Tattoos
VIP member Promzy is one icon in Ghana’s music industry whose body is almost covered with tattoos. Sources told NEWS-ONE that Promzy, the calmest member of VIP trio, was obsessed with tattoos.
On various stages across Africa and beyond over the years, he never hesitates to show off his tattoos and well-built body.
Most often, he comes on stage with outfits that expose the tattoos.
But what are the meanings of his numerous tattoos? Close sources to the musician told NEWS-ONE that Promzy always avoided talking about his tattoos. “But he said the one on his left arm was for his family. The right is for the streets. His body is for the entire Ghana. He loves tattoos I think,” a source said.
Promzy, born Emmanuel Promzy Ababio, is an influential member of VIP, the reigning Ghana Music Awards artiste of the year.
He was born on February 14. During the last Valentine’s Day celebrations, the two other members of VIP and other friends in the music industry organised a surprise party for him at the Grandpapa’s Pub to mark his birthday.
The group is currently preparing for its US tour. The latest single, ‘Which Kind Yawa Be Dis’, off its upcoming album, is generating attention across the country.
The song was released for airplay just last week and it is picking up faster than expected. VIP is made up of Abdul Hamidu Ibrahim (Lazzy), Emmanuel Ababio (Promzy) and Joseph Nana Ofori (Prodigal). The three started music way back in the early 90s, at Nima, a suburb of Accra.
They used to meet to determine “who is who” in rap competitions. Little did they know that one day they would become stars.
The group was nominated for the Ghana Music Awards 2002 as the Hip-Life Rap Music Group of the Year and has toured the nation with great the Osibisa band.
Swimming in fame, VIP won several awards such as ‘Artiste of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Hiplife Artiste of the Year’, ‘Hiplife Song of the Year’ and ‘Hiplife Album of the Year’ all at the 2004 Ghana Music Awards.
In 2004, VIP represented Ghana at the 2004 Kora Awards in South Africa and made Ghana proud. The group performed alongside Salif Keita, among others. That same year, VIP represented Ghana as ambassadors in Greece, Athens as part of fundraising activities for the 2004 Olympics Games.
The group is one of the top music groups with loads of laurels. Internationally, VIP has performed in the United Kingdom, Amsterdam, Denhaag, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and South Africa.
