Miss Malaika Girls Choose John Dumelo Over Majid
When Accra-based radio station, Joy FM organized its annual Nite with Stars event in 2009, listeners voted John Dumelo as their favourite male movie star of the year.
Some people felt it was a fluke and perhaps the ubiquitous Majid Michel deserved that nod. However, it was almost emphatic over the weekend that indeed most Ghanaian ladies prefer John to Majid, when majority of the 14 contestants in the ongoing Miss Malaika beauty contest chose John over Majid.
This week, the contestants in the reality TV beauty contest, interacted with ace broadcast journalist Kwami Sefa-Kayi in an exercise meant to determine the most eloquent girl amongst the finalists. Kwami in his interactions with the girls asked a number of questions including finding out their favourite actors.
Whenever any of the girls’ favourite actors was not a foreign star, their answer was John Dumelo; and when Kwami asked them to pick their favourite actor between Majid and John, majority of the girls went for John. The unanimity in choice was just not a simple answer but most of the time, their body language read “of course John Dumelo”. Whatever it is that John Dumelo is doing right, it is certainly working for him because the ladies love him.
The Miss Malaika diaries and eviction shows can be seen on GTV on Sundays and Tuesdays respectively. The 14 delegates are Petra Agyarkwa, Berlla Addordey, Ayerki Nanor, Perprtual Kaditey, Selina Owusu, Emelia Amanda, and Belinda Esinam Ofori.
The rest are Stephen Mensah, Jennifer Afolley Tettteh, Felicia Nartey, Linda Kusi, Ruqy Alhassan, Roslyn Ashkar, Deborah Koomson, Nanan Yaa Hanaku – Larbi, Nana Ama Norkor Nettey. Four of them would be eliminated before the grand finale later this year.
